I think Wade Pfau and/or others have conducted/cited research showing that folks with SPIAs generally spend down more of their assets with less stress due to how people operate with "a regular monthly income stream that you will never outlive". So, even if a SPIA is technically suboptimal from a purely financial perspective (and I by no means assume that that is the case), a SPIA can often be optimal as a practical matter as folks spend more with less stress ... which is the goal, right?Consider buying a Single Premium Immediate Annuity with a portion of your savings. That will give you a regular monthly income stream that you will never outlive.I have been irritated in the past by my elders insistence on “not touching the principal” but now that it is going to become a reality, I am really feeling the hesitance and have a little more empathy - so - dear BHs … help me with this mental block !!
