Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Loaning money to kids to buy house

I've "loaned" money to my kids for their college as well (we've agreed they'll pay for 50% of their tuition expenses.) One of them has paid it back. The other.... I'm not expecting payment. If they do, great. If they don't oh well. There was no written agreement, there's no interest.

It would be the same with a house. Some could view it as a gift, others as a 0% loan. I would not actually become a lender. Either I help them out or I don't.

Things like this tear families apart. Wait until there's an elderly person circling the drain, suddenly everyone is very interested in their well-being and wants to be 1st at the trough.
