3. For taxable accounts, how should the foreign tax credit benefit of VXUS be factored into a VT vs. VTI+VXUS comparison?

The benefit of the foreign tax credit depends on a couple things... (and possibly more that I'm not recalling)
1. The dollar amount of the foreign taxes paid.
2. The other income reported by the taxpayer(s) and whether or not any income tax is actually due.

In other words, it's difficult to draw general conclusions because much of it depends you your own personal tax situation.
