Lately, I'm considering moving my entire IRA into an asset allocation fund (all-in-one fund). I was considering mirroring my IRA in taxable as well (I have read the lengthy thread on this topic).
I would not be doing this for perfection. It's to make life easier for my wife to manage if I'm suddenly not here. She and I spoke at length and she just doesn't have a desire to manage it. She'd be much happier just taking RMDs by selling a single asset and then leaving the rest alone.
Considering this, I'm likely going to use an AIO fund or etf for the IRA.
My main concern with respect to the taxable account relates to NJ taxes. Treasuries are not taxed in NJ, nor is SS. This is a big deal since we have a lovely tax cliff that affects how much pension/retirement income is taxed. Luckily, SS and Treasury interest is not taxed. This helps a lot and may be there reason I don't mirror my IRA in taxable. I may simply use something like AVGE and VGIT (plus some cash) in taxable and call it a day.
I'm curious about one aspect of this - placing an ETF in the IRA vs a Mutual Fund. Are there reasons not to use the ETF in tax deferred?
