Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Reimbursing yourself for Medicare premiums with an HSA

I used to use my HSA funds to pay for my ACA premiums.
...
My understanding is that HSA cannot be used for ACA premiums, but can for Medicare. Why you may ask? Because Congress wrote it that way :annoyed
Yes, you are correct.
My memory of it is not so good these days.
I went back and looked and what I did was use my HSA to pay for my Medicare premiums during the period I was on Medicare but not collecting SS. Once I started collecting SS I just let them take the premiums from my SS check. I used the HSA to pay the premiums directly, no later reimbursements. I guess I figured because I didn’t have a big balance left in my HSA I’d use it up sooner rather than later so I decided not to reimburse myself for the premiums withheld by SS.
