With physical cards in 2026 I'd have to think that wallet loss and theft are at least as much of a risk as a card skimmer when dealing with most businesses.
Almost every restaurant we visit now brings a payment device to the table, the days of giving the card to the waiter and having it disappear for 5-15 minutes are mostly gone where I live in the US (we do still have one or two that do take the card away my guess is because their payment device is not working).
