This is the real underlying thing with ALL this stuff - learn the options, see some discussions about it, model some stuff, and in the end pick the option you're comfortable with (both if you're "right" and if you're "wrong).I probably will be greatly criticized for this but I converted several million dollars of a traditional IRA to a Roth between ages 65 and 72. I converted to the top of the 35% bracket and I was in maximum IRMAA. I've continued to believe that taxes will go way up in the future. But now it's all mine and particularly my heirs' and barring some incredible change in the law, the government has no piece of it anymore. It is a great feeling as I will be filing taxes for the first year without converting to a Roth and never having had to take RMDs.
After all - it's money, and one of the best things you can spend money on is peace of mind.
