I did not try to dig through the numbers but a few things to keep in mind are;
1)What are they using to compare to? I would assume that every customer would be invested somewhat differently. Also was it based on one lump sum invested 30 year ago or were additional investments made each year>
2) Why 30 years? How did it perform over different time periods. The last 30 years includes the dot com crash and the 2008 Great financial crisis so it like likely an atypical time.
3) Does that include reinvested dividends? I have seen things like life insurance or variable annuities try to compare performance to an index, but without reinvested dividends.
