What the OP is describing was an assignment when I was in college. Being that it was the '70s AI (and the internet) as we know it today wasn't around to help, so for each day I had to look at the price (of one stock) and look through newspapers trying to explain the price movement for that day. This went on for a couple of months I think? Anyway the bottom line was that for most days I could come up with about equal justification for the stock rising or falling, so I'd choose whichever narrative fit the behavior and go with that.
Was this for a journalism class? :)
It was for a first-year economics class. When I think about how easy that would have been if there was something like what the OP is asking for: it would have been the perfect tool for that assignment, saving me countless hours.
