We did stop the retirement contributions this year. I don't think we have enough outside of it. My husband is over 59.5, so we can use his Roth money if we need it. We also have quite a bit in bonds- about 10+ years worth of expenses, plus SS in a few years. SS will actually cover a good chunk of our expenses.I would stop retirement savings and see how much cash you can save.
When we retired, we had two to three years of expenses in liquid funds. Are you not concerned about a market downturn that might occur early in your retirement?
I know everyone has a different risk tolerance, so this is not a criticism of your plan.
We never meant to stay in our house so long, but it wasn't really feasible with schools, work, etc. If I could go back in time, I'd just buy a house that would be good for 50 years. We aren't looking for a fancy house, just a house with more than one bathroom and off-street parking.
