Does the plug-in model retain its excess value at time of resale, so that I could sell it for, say, at least $4K more than I would have been able to sell the regular gas version?

On the contrary, hybrid versions of X5 and 5-series are harder to sell than the ICE versions and can be often had for less in the used car market, same goes for other German hybrids like for Audi and VW.
