Yes, you can use any external account for credit card payments. But this is hardly exclusive to BoA.For the second, yeah, I can't believe I missed it for so long myself, just add another linked account as a pay-from. Go to the manage accounts from other banks menu from the toolbar. Then add another pay from account. Personally I use Fidelity, but you could use whatever you like. Makes life easier and I keep minimal cash in BofA.
You can set the rewards to auto-eedeem to the checking account. You can then move to Merrill, which is one more step, but is instant.It would be nice if Merrill accounts worked like Fidelity to auto redeem money markets, but then they'd nerf Platinum rewards faster.
However, the simplest option is to use statement credit, IMO. You get the same redemption rate.
BoA seems to sit on the rewards for a long time before auto redeeming. Nearly a month after they post, I think. I end up doing manual redemptions because of this.
