The North American car market does not seem to care. The current base Tesla M3 weighs over 3900lbs. That’s some 700lbs heavier than, say, the base (non-hybrid) Honda Accord which is a larger car. The comparison to a Civic would be even more stark. Let’s face it. EVs are saddled with a substantial weight penalty over ICE cars that are in comparable categories.Tire wear is an issue on certain EVs that have high HP and are heavy. But a Chevy Bolt or base Tesla weigh about 3,600lbs, which is about what a v6 Camry weighs. We aren't talking about a 5000lb Lucid Air with 1,000hp.What about insurance. I heard EV has high premium. Tier wear out after 20k miles.
At least, in my last trip there (last week), the growth in the number of behemoth trucks & SUVs was notable. These things are huge, and they must way a lot more than a sedan or small SUV?
I realise that the consumer choice there is about more size, rather than more weight. But people who are buying Teslas are not necessarily also considering 4 door sedans from Honda? Because those 4 door sedans are not selling, compared to SUVs & pickups.
