Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Protecting assets for potential nursing home stay

… We do have an elder law attorney but uncertain of her competency. …
Perhaps your trusts and estates lawyer could recommend one.
What exactly should the non attorney client be looking for to differentiate between elder law vs trusts and estates attorneys. I'm referring to attorneys that devote their entire practice to this sort of work.
While there's some overlap, for the most part they're different practice areas. Elder law attorneys mainly do Medicaid and guardianships. Trusts and estates lawyers mainly do, well, trusts and estates, including estate planning and administration, and sometimes estate and trust disputes (often with the help of litigators). Estate planning and administration are often tax oriented.
