Personal Finance (Not Investing) • How to value LTIs - 3 year vesting

For what it’s worth, my wife has had these as RSUs since a promotion in 2020, vesting annually over 3 or 4 years. This far she’s vested about $53k and she’s had about $180k listed in the past 4 years as compensation related to those RSUs. She’s recently had her position eliminated and they’ll pay out another $12k or so pro-rated.

Her Fortune 500 company’s stock peaked during this time and has now lost about 50% of the value from its peak, so perhaps we’ve been unlucky. It sounds like the new companies she’s interviewing with will likely match the $65k or so she might have left invested but we’re not certain yet.

To answer your initial question, I value them at $0 in our net worth calculation until they vest. As far as valuing them in total compensation when comparing offers, for example, I’d probably value them at half or three quarters of what I’d value that amount at if it was being given to me as salary. I think everyone’s opinion will vary on this
