Wires, even free, would not have been suitable to pay my plumber at the time the work was completed. Wires don't t process instantly, and can fail or be cancelled. This isn't real estate where you wait for the wire to arrive - the plumber isn't going to wait for the wire. Plumbers are also needed on days that wires don't process. Checks don't process instantly either, but as archaic as they may be, are still acceptable as a method of payment.Wires from Fidelity are same day if you meet the cutoff, and I have been finding that ACHs are same day now if you get them in before noon ET/9am PT as well. We don't use the BofA checking for much of anything else except check writing one or twice a year. Fidelity CMA is our payment hub.
I wish there was a better solution.
