Personal Investments • Deferred annuity question

I think the term "deferred annuity" may be imprecise. I have Deferred Income Annuity (DIA) that is exactly like an SPIA except that payments don't start immediately. The is no concept of "invested in." It is a contact that pays a certain, known and specified, periodic amount starting at a specific date.
Curious as to how these work. If I buy one today to start paying out in 5 years, is the payment fixed as of the date the annuity is purchased? Or, does it depend on interest rates 5 years from now and I'll only know the payment at that time? Thanks.
