I haven't read, but watched Dr. Peter Attis going back to when he kept some hair. Lol.
Yes, exercise, weight training, sleep,etc.etc.
One thing I heard him say that resonated as much as anything though: (Paraphrasing)
"We don't know why, but it appears it does not matter what those that live into their 80's, 90's, and beyond do in regards to environmental factors."
Which makes sense and is why when they put someone 100 years old on the news, they always ask them what their secret is to longevity, and their response is often, "I don't know..." or "I take two shots of whiskey daily and a cigar on the weekends..."
Meanwhile, EVERY study or doctor states to not drink alcohol (even wine now last I read) and never smoke.
One of my best friends worked as an assistant to the head of geriatric medicine at one of the major Universities/Hospitals of the state.
He told him we're all born with basically a genetic "death code". It may be 35, it may be 95.
Living a perfect balance of nutrition, diet, exercise, mental fitness, etc. will only get you to yours, whatever it may be.
But doing so will NOT get you to 50 if yours is 45. And it sure won't get you to 100 if yours is 90.
And again, that's being, "perfect".
Being imperfect takes a couple of years off whatever yours is, and he stated, "How great is the last year or two for anyone?"
To sum it up was to do whatever you want in moderation, because the effort otherwise won't balance out within the results or control we think.
And eat a hot dog once in awhile if you want.
This is really the nub of it, a gene flip and you get cancer at 60, despite doing "everything right". I do the exercise, nutrition thing because exercise makes me feel good and real food tastes better to me than highly processed frankenfood which translates into better physical and mental health. Health-span trumps life-span.
