Uber made a profit for the first time ever last year. Before that, they bled cash. Perhaps the cost has increased to give investors money.
We had a company training and 10 of us arrived at the Phoenix airport. 5 people got into an Uber and we shuffled around because there was no way we'd fit in a Prius taxi, so got into a mini van taxi. So we left maybe 3 minutes after the Uber. We got to the hotel and paid the $40 fee. A couple minutes later, in comes the Uber. They had paid on their app, of course and it was $60. This is an isolated incident, but the only Uber example I know of. I use taxis always at airports. They're insured and regulated. Uber drivers are likely uninsured (if you don't tell insurance you're driving people, you aren't insured and if you have a claim, they're giving you nothing).
