And, we have tried having the A/C fan run 24/7. It did help reduce the temperature spread between floors somewhat, but I don't think it got it down to just a couple of degrees.
About 25 years ago, an HVAC tech recommended to us to run the A/C fan 24/7 during the warmer months, saying that is what he did at home. Ever since, in two homes, we've switched the fan setting on our thermostat from AUTO to ON, from May to September. Big difference in maintaining a cooler upstairs temperature.

I would take note of where the air intakes for your HVAC are located. You likely have a vent or vents, typically a big 2 foot by 2 foot screen, on a wall or ceiling somewhere that draws in air to feed your AC and furnace. Cold air sinks. Ideally you have one intake on the lowest level of the house. The theory is to draw air into your cooling unit from the lower levels, and have the fan regularly circulate the colder air from the basement throughout the house.

So far we have not needed to replace a fan.
