The EV1 was released in a period of static CAFE standards. Those standards were the same for 18 years until 2011. In 2010, Nissan released the Leaf. Huge coincidence probably.
Tesla turned in positive net income in 2020. A decade before that was 2010. Halfway into that decade (Q4 2014), Nissan hadn't made money on the Leaf. How do we know this? Because their CEO literally admitted as much.
