Personal Consumer Issues • When to replace tesla?

As a 16 year old, I would have loved a 0-60 4.9 second time. My parents and insurance company, probably not.
Teslas newest software update include a child-mode protection that includes top speed limiter, reduced accel (rough equivalent to 200hp), enforcing all the safety features, and a curfew notification function that alerts the parents when the car is operated out of defined hours.
Thanks for the info - nice feature. Just need a system that shuts down the car when they look at their phone and limits speed to 5 below the speed limit and I might buy one for my son in a few years ;)
The accident rates for young, male drivers seem to be fairly horrendous. It's not just substance abuse, or looking at their phones.

(The only "good" news in that is of course that organs from young healthy donors are in short supply. Improvements in automotive safety have compounded that supply issue).

Here (UK) they are often driving in cars with several other young people, so the lethal accidents, when they happen, are not 1 but several young lives tragically lost.

It would never fly politically but there would certainly be a case for having a higher licence age for male drivers.

The idea of parental controls on vehicle speed and acceleration is a good one.
You might find this interesting. In Virginia, the licensing is done in a “graduated manner”. New drivers don’t have all the privileges of more experienced drivers.

One example is that new drivers aren’t allowed to drive with their friends after 10:00PM. That sort of thing.
