Agree with the SIM lock and IRS PIN suggestions. Also good: having a good password manager (1Password), using a Google Voice number for 2FA, using fictitious answers for security question, closely monitoring financial accounts (turn alerts on, obviously), replacing debit cards with ATM cards, locking debit cards, treating all unsolicited emails, texts, and phone calls as phishing enterprises, checking free big three credit reports periodically, avoiding paper checks in the mail or writing them from a secondary account, avoid accessing financial accounts on public computers or public WiFi, and make your email secure. I found this list, recommended by zero_coupon, very helpful (I think I did everything on the list other than the one security freeze that would have required putting personal info in the mail):
