Not sure I understand. If you sell the entire position, all methods give the same cost basis.If you are liquidating whole position, how are spec id, LIFO, max gain, average different? If all are LT or all ST and all shares liquidated, they are all the same.One can only sell whole shares of an ETF, unless the position is being liquidated.
However, it is certainly possible to SpecID fractional shares
Example:
Sell 3 shares of XYZ
SpecID
1.6 shares bought on xx/xx/xx
1.4 shares bought on yy/yy/yy
If you are not selling the entire position, you can't sell fractional shares, but can SpecID fractional shares.
