I am semi-retired and getting health insurance through my consulting gig. I am considering ending this assignment at the end of December as DW is now retired. However, there is a possibility I might continue working into next year if my assignment is interesting enough for me, but I won’t know for sure until the end of December, the earliest.
This makes it a bit tricky for health insurance. Open enrollment for next year through work is the last week of October. ACA open enrollment is Nov 1st to Dec 15th.
Can I sign up for ACA and then drop it Jan 1st if I don’t need it? Never had ACA and I am not sure if I am eligible to apply for it in November while still technically employed, but with intent to not be employed in Jan. Could not find good info about this situation. I don’t want to break any rules.
