Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Injury at a business - thoughts on personal injury lawyer or small claims court?

Whenever I've seen a doctor or urgent care for an "accident", they have me fill out a form to identify the time, location, and what happened. I get the impression that I may not be responsible for the bills if it was not my fault and they would look to the business / city/ other party for payment.

I think she should call her medical insurance and tell them what happened so THEY could contact the responsible party to cover the medical bills. (They're not going to want to pay bills for something they're not responsible for.) If they plan to do that, she can skip the lawyer route unless she wants to be reimbursed for pain and suffering and the inability to work for a while. She may need physical therapy too to relearn to walk.

A relative once fell outside a public building. Several bystanders said the sidewalk had been like that for several years and others have fallen there. Although she wasn't injured, my relative asked how to report the accident. Usually it wouldn't be worth her time, but once a form was filled out, she figured someone would have to look at it and follow thru to make sure the sidewalk gets fixed.
