Personal Consumer Issues • Need electrical grounding/bonding advice

Often the cold water pipe was used for a ground.
I understand why they did that, but the problem is if the
the copper line gets a leak and someone puts a piece of
plastic pipe in as a fix, you lose your ground.
My brother rented a farm house and was electrocuted
because of this.

If you have an issue with floating voltage, I would check
out the status of all grounds.

You can buy a simple device to test outlets, for example:

You may also have an issue with a 240 appliance. An electrician could check these out.
This thread is shocking. I moved into a new house and used one of these devices to find some easily fixable problems.
