Investing - Theory, News & General • Life expectancy & inflation risk

In 1924, people lived to be around 60 years old on average. Life expectancy was about 70 a half century later and now it’s roughly 80. So the average 25-year-old today may live to be 90 due to advancements that are yet to come if (and, granted, it’s a big “if”) the trend continues. I’d personally bet on a longer time horizon for the young person than a mere 80 and factor that into my decision on how much risk to take. With perhaps 65 years of inflation ahead for the youngster, I’d go heavy with equities for the next few decades and include a fair bit of international stocks in the mix because kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall.
