Personal Consumer Issues • New Garmin Fitness Tracking Smartwatch

Looking for a new fitness tracking smartwatch.

Had a Fitbit Charge 4 for years that worked reasonably well but recently the display become so dim that it could only be used at night or indoors. It is not usable at all outside even outside direct sunlight, so it doesn't even serve as a basic watch.

I looked at the Charge 6, which is a relative bargain with its black friday deal, but I see it is no longer Fitbit and now forces you to do everything through Google and also requires a monthly subscription to utilize features, which I don't want to do.

I'm now looking at Garmin, which has good Black Friday deals. Their basic fitness tracker, while affordable, doesn't seem as developed as the Fitbit and their smartwaches, so I'm deciding beween the Garmin Vivoactive 5, Venu 3, or Insight 2.

I'm leaning towards the Vivoactive 5 as it seems the lightest and most likely to work both with dress clothes as well as during fitness. The Insight 2 seems practical, but not having seen it in person am concerned it'd be bulky (I have smaller wrists), and be out of place with dress clothes. The Venu 3 has it all, but it's still a bit pricey, and not sure it's worth the premium over the Vivoactive 5 for just an altimeter/barometer. The barometer feature never worked right in the Fitbit Charge 4, so that's not something I'm actively using.

Anyone have actual experience with the Garmins?
As an aside: have you had experience or considered an Apple SmartWatch? Series 8 or newer/other?
