Just in case more clarity is called for, I wasn't thinking that a deflation- or disinflation-minded investment would lose money, or match the rate of change in consumer price, or anything like that. It would simply be more about bearing in mind macroeconomic conditions when selecting equities or equity funds, if such a thing matters. I don't think my remark was necessarily misunderstood anyway.I continue to be completely baffled as to why any functional investor considers deflation to be an investing problem. (A social problem, yes). An investment that matches deflation is functionally OK; it's only a problem for competitive investors because something else could have done better.
