I put very little effort into it. My sons are 8 years apart. They have different interests, different needs, different aptitudes...Christmas wasn't even close this year and I guarantee you they didn't care one bit.
My oldest got almost a full ride to college and had a lot of money because the fund his grandparents invested in was going nuts for 10 years before he started. Younger son might not be so lucky, we'll see. I've promised him he will still get a debt free education.
From the standpoint of being the child, I'm one of 5 siblings and I don't even know when or how much my parents gift any of them. It's none of my business. My sister had a really rough year last year with a bad accident and medical bills and I'm sure they helped her out a lot. In no way do I feel like they should make it even by giving me money as well.
