Redundancy is good? It's not hugely common but there are various places, especially event venues, that are Visa-only. The only place I've ever seen Mastercharge only was Costco in Canada. (Even more entertainingly, Costco is Visa-only in the US.)
Yes, Costco-type restrictions are one of the things I was thinking about. It would be easy enough to hang on to the Citi Double Cash Mastercard, since I will likely be logging on to Citi.com regularly to pay/monitor the Costco Citi Visa.
If you use the DoubleCash a lot and/or have a stash of accumulated points, you might want to open the Citi Strata Premier card and move your Double Cash points to Strata. $95 annual fee, so not worth doing unless you have a decent stash of points on Double Cash, but you could also earn 60K points as a sign up bonus. Transfers to travel partners from Double Cash are discounted by 30% compared to transfers from the Strata card.
