Unsure if Costco's much lower quote (half price) was due to being made from "cheaper" brand(s)?
IMO Costco glasses are top-notch. I get titanium frames with an open bottom from whatever random designer that they have in stock (my current pair is "Bulova") and progressive lenses. The bluish AR coating they used to have bothered me and I would omit it but the later versions are not noticeable. I've been using Costco for over a decade and have not yet had any frames break or any other problems. My first pair had the transition level higher than I'd like and they redid them at no charge with no fuss. My Drivewear polarized photochromic prescription sunglasses are the best I've ever had.

AFAIK they use state-of-the-art lens materials, perhaps not the highest cost but certainly not obsolete or low quality.
