Personal Consumer Issues • Buy a BMW X5 in 2026?

I agree with everyone that you should get an extended warranty.
I'd say there is far from consensus on the wisdom of an "extended warranty." These are loaded with dealer profit, and, as with nearly all forms of insurance, are calculated so the "house" always wins. I have not, and will never, buy an extended warranty. Find a good indy mechanic and take care of your BMW. It will last for many years.
Same here, no extended warranties. The best extended warranty is 5k mile oil changes (don’t believe 10k interval) and all maintenance on time (or sooner) at an indy mechanic. Also, no such thing as ‘lifetime’ fluids.

Put what you would have spent on a warranty or the CPO premium (usually $2k) into a treasury ETF and use that as your future maintenance fund. But since OP can afford an X5 outright, that might not be an issue.
