I'm convinced that gutter guards don't work / are a scam.
I have 80 linear feet of gutter. Decades ago I bought some rolls of metal mesh gutter guard - might now be $29.99/roll with two required. Put that on the gutters. Didn't work. Much of that mesh got recycled as reinforcement in a new concrete sidewalk.
Several years later, I saw white plastic mesh panel type gutter guard - might now be $5/each with 16 required. They neatly snapped into grooves in my gutters. Didn't work. Ahead of every rainy season I had to remove the guards, excavate an entire ecosystem of plants and soil out of the gutters, and snap the guards back in. Every time I did this, I'd get little "paper" cuts on my hands. One year I even found a "log" under the guards! (A four foot long, two inch diameter stick.) A few years back I noticed the plastic was brittle and cracked easily. I didn't reinstall it - simply threw it away.
