The only times I’ve subsidized an adult child was when they were unemployed through no fault of their own. I would pay their health insurance premiums, and medical expenses. Ten years ago, when one child was not quite 40, bipolar disorder reared its ugly head for the first time and child was unable to hold a job, child’s father and I paid all living expenses until child was stabilized and was able to work as an independent contractor in their field. Still, I continued to pay for health insurance until child could afford it.
Recently, as part of my estate plan, I gifted them in kind investments. As others have said, giving with a warm hand.
