I lived in Spain over a decade ago. I’ve seen several U.S. backpackers then trying to leave Spain for Morocco on a quick trip to reset their 90 days. Only to find out on their return to Spain that the Schengen rules didn’t work that way. They were refused entry and couldn’t get back to their belongings they left behind in Spain.Supposedly, EES is going online in November. That ought to tighten up enforcement of the 90/180 rule, shifting from perusing inked stamps to fingerprints and facial recognition. I don't know if the November date really will hold. It seems like France is balking given they can't work on the systems during the onslaught of visitors for the Olympics.Umm, ok.Officially.Length of stay rules apply across the Schengen zone, of which Spain is a part. You definitely cannot stay 7 months at a time on visa waiver or tourist visa.
I was wondering the same thing. Although in Spain, it may not matter much.
So, back then, Spain enforced the 90/180 rule.
